About
Born and raised on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I've loved film and photography since the day my little child brain gained consciousness. The shaping of light and sound, emotion and subtext, pacing and composition, at the end of the day it's all in favor of the main goal: storytelling. I can't help but see the world through a lens. Though, I suppose most artists become obsessive at some point. You can usually find me with at least 2-3 different kinds of cameras on me and asking my friends to "stay right there, don't move for one second" until I can snag a quick photo, or otherwise pausing in the middle of something to capture a moment or sight in a specifically-framed digital memory. Like a fly on the wall who's courageous enough to interject.
To be an artist is to be fighter. I am eternally focused on my form and constantly aware of opportunities to capture and express it and grow further from it. I've worked hard to get to the point where I can afford the time to make the art that requires long draws of perfectionist gestures. I will continue to seize opportunities as they come and open doors through my own volition.
To be an artist is also to be a lover. In all of my projects, I strive to surround myself with and work alongside those I hold dearly, peers I wish to share in the collaborative arts. To support my fellow artists is to share in the experience of their self-expressions, and I couldn't be happier to witness their shining lights. If we can all lift each other up as we push from our knees, heads held high, hand in tender hand, we could float right off the ground.
My current goals center around breaking away from the conventions and "rules" of filmmaking, cinematography and photography to find my voice in a sea of endless inspiration. Comparing myself to others is such a drag, and honestly has become a bore. You can learn everything in the world by watching those who've done it before, but you can't know something is impossible until you seek to try it yourself.
Key word of the day: discipline.
Last words before the well-deserved rest: thanks for everything.
